In 1933, Nazi student organizations and professors came up with a list of books they thought should not be read by Germans. Then, on May 10, Nazi followers raided libraries and bookstores across Germany, gathering all the books they deemed unacceptable for Germans to read and threw the books into huge bonfires. Some of the books were from Jewish writers, however, the majority were from American writers whose ideas didnt fit with the Nazi ideals. Schools also played a role in spreading Nazi ideas by ridding the campuses of books that held ideals contrary to Nazi ideals and being the meeting place for Hitler Youth.
