Hitler was a phenomenal speaker, spellbinding even. His antics attracted a wide variety of Germans ready for a change. He promised a better life and a new, more powerful, glorious Germany. The Nazi Party (short for the National Socialist German Workers Party) appealed especially to the young, unemployed and lower classes.
Hitler's rise to power was rapid. In 1924, the Nazi party was widely unsupported, claiming only 3 percent of the votes in German Parliament. By 1932, the Nazi party claimed 33 percent of the votes, more than any other party. Hitler was then appointed Chancellor of Germany. |
