The Jewish people that were transported to these camps were in most cases, killed immediately. The Nazi's refered to these camps as "death camps" or "killing camps," and at most of these locations, the prisoners were gassed because the Nazi's felt it more efficient than shooting each prisoner and wanted to keep the SS officers from the emotional stress that comes with killing a person face to face. These camps were in well hidden, isolated areas and were in most cases, next to major railroad lines. Hence, the Nazi's ability to kill thousands upon thousands of innocent Jewish people.
